Ok thanks.0

I am thinking of switching my energy supplier but have a smart meter, that was supplied to me a few years ago from British Gas. If I do switch, would I still be able to use this meter with the new supplier?0
-
yes, you or they just go and read it like before, with a pair of eyes.Don't you dare criticise what you cannot understand0
-
Yes you can go on using the meter although it won't be smart anymore - someone will have to actually read it rather than it automatically sending info to the supplier. I don't know whether the in-house display will still work thoughNever under estimate the power of stupid people in large numbers0

I got a call today from one of the comparison sites who told me that Sainsbury's would save me a few hundred pounds a year, but their reviews do not seem to be much good - what do you mean by no frills?0

You'll find bad reviews for almost every supplier if you look.
Sainsburys energy is supplied by British Gas, so you'll be dealing with the same customer service as you do at present.
Why don't you run your own comparison online and compare the whole of the marketplace?
If you call a comparison site (and so presumably if they call you), they usually limit their offerings to only those that they will switch you to (because those the the ones that pay them commission) ... which makes me a little surprised that the comparison site offered to switch you to Sainsburys when you are already supplied by BG. If you call BG they should be able to arrange this as a simple tariff transfer.
(in fact, very soon suppliers will have to include such white label tariffs when advising you if you could be on a cheaper deal from them)
Edit: In fact the proposal was that such change was to start in July 20150
