My wife bought a New Toyota AYGO 6 years ago, after the warranty expired she signed up to the Toyota Extended Warranty which INCLUDES Toyota Roadside Assistance which is provided by the AA.

EVERY YEAR in advance of the Extended warranty renewal Toyota Roadside Assistance / AA send out a renewal letter for renewal of the Roadside Assistance weeks in advance of the renewal letter for the extended warranty.

Last year, my wife renewed the Roadside straight away - we than had to call and get a refund, The Call Centre supervisor/manager agreed the practice was not a good one.

Now three years later I can only describe there continuing to send these renewal letters out to people who have cover free with their extended warranty as deliberately misleading. I would like to know how many people pay up each year then find themselves paying twice for cover, and I'm sure many will not realise this has happened.

There is a point where bad practices amount to Fraud as they knowingly fail to advise customers that there is the possibility of an overpayment.

There is no excuse for this.

  • There are several manufacturers who do not even include roadside assistance beyond the first year, so count yourself lucky...

Not sure it genuinely amounts to fraud - this simply sounds like different companies marketing overlapping services from the same original database source. Data protection probably allows sharing of the original data, but not sharing of the full customer record which would prevent this cross marketing taking place.

Do the AA even know whether your Toyota warranty is still valid or not?

If they don't, then you might find yourself needing roadside assistance and not having any, because the AA haven't contacted you about the renewal.
  • The AA do ring people about renew too. They also increase the insurance paid after a year and call it a free upgrade......another story.

But I would put it down to a computer data base error.

Please note that at no point during this work was the kettle ever put out of commission and no chavs were harmed during the making of this post.
