Girona is about 50 mins travel from barcelona so it depends whether you want to stay in the city itself. www.travelsupermarket.com will have the mose comprehensive list of accomadation. we usally head 40 mins to the coast near to palafrugell and can recommend plenty of places to the north oif here0

In Girona itself, I would recommend a look at Hotel Historic.
I have not stayed there myself as we booked and cancelled (without penalty) but it is voted #1 on Trip Advisor and is not expensive.
Also from my limited dealings with the owner I found him a very pleasant person.0 -
closest resort I know to Girona is calella, get some some really good hotels on www.travelrepublic.co.uk
you can get lots of self catering, half board or all inclusive hotels really cheap, you can also easily reach all the costa brava resorts like, lloret de mar, etc!
Hope this helps!
oh and if you use travel republic there is also a discount code on UKHD !!!0 -
We stayed at the Hotel Ultonia in Girona last September and it ticked plenty of boxes - grerat location, good value & cheap mini bar!
The hotel Historic also looked nice - right in the old quarter of the city.
You can get a bus from the airport into the city for very little money, which actually turned out quicker than a taxi as the queue was so long!
My one recommendation is Boira, a fantastic tapas bar in Placa Indepencia, best tapas I have ever had. There was another place, on the pedestrianised shopping street over the other side of the river - looked a bit like an offy (lots of wine bottles in the window), but with tables outside in the evening. Sorry, I can't remember the name but someone else might!
I think I prefer Girona to Barcelona, less touristy, more relaxed & much easier to wander around.0
