Quick question about meter readings

How could you have been complaining since the end of July when you only actually switched supplier (and so knew the meter reading now disputed) 3 weeks ago?
Good luck!
Ok. A quick reprise. Applied to switch on 3rd June. Switch Date: 1st July. Actual meter readings given to new supplier on 1st July. On 31st July, submitted actual meter readings for a monthly statement. Got a statement for electricity only which covered period back to the end of my previous contract with this supplier. Raised a complaint. On investigation, it was found that the old account had corrupted the new account - hence, the electricity billing error. It also became clear that the 'system' thought that my gas was already on supply so it saw no need to raise a transfer request. Manual transfer request raised for 17th August. Provided actual meter reading for gas on the 17th August. Presumably, as third party has had no actual meter usage readings for 3 months (although these were provided twice monthly to the old supplier) it made a wild calculation 105C3Ms out in favour of the old supplier. I only found this out when I got a Final Bill from the old supplier on Monday.
The current MSE CEC offer could save me £53 pa plus cash back but my guess is that switching will just cause further billing issues. The 'less hassle' way forward is to let the meter get past the opening reading, and then switch. At 0.9C3Ms usage a day, this could take a few weeks. My present supplier opines that it is giving me FREE gas!!This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
So if your new price is cheaper then take it sooner, and if your new price is more expensive then take it later. Make sure it is in your favour!
That's what I do, I made £25 when I switched last time and I'll make another £25 when I switch this time.
200 odd kWh under or over will never be noticed.over 73 but not over the hill.0 -
The last time I switched, the electricity and the gas switch happened totally independently from each other.
I recorded readings for both at every stage.
They sent me an e-mail to ask for the gas reading, but since the website allows you to do both, I submitted the readings for both gas and electricity for that day. I thought that was it: NO!
It seems they asked for the electricity readings a few days later, which I ignored, because I thought I already did. So the computer was waiting for a reading, which never arrived. It waited for the maximum number of days, then produced an ESTIMATED reading to start the new account. The gas account started with my submitted reading correctly.
It's like waiting for builders. They juggle ten jobs at a time, and turn up in their own sweet time. Of course, the sockets are in the wrong place; the bathroom mirror is far too high, because the fitter is a foot taller than everybody who live in the house.
Don't go on holiday for two months if you switch.
Well, I suppose you can take the readings with you, since you are not using much while you are away.
Give them the readings on the day you apply?
Dream on, that is far too sensible and logical for these crazy bureaucrats.0 -

Never assume anything when changing suppliers.over 73 but not over the hill.0
