Welcome Finance Mechanical Breakdown & Shortfall Insurance

Hi Everyone,
It's my first time posting on here so forgive me if this subject has been discussed before.
I had car finance with Welcome Finance in 2008. They said that mechanical breakdown and shortfall insurance was mandatory and I couldn't have the car without it. I didn't have an alternative option at the time so reluctantly signed the agreement.
Does anyone know whether I have grounds to reclaim? I didn't take out PPI but I feel that I was missold the shortfall and MBI, because I now don't think it is mandatory and they said I couldn't have the car without it.
Please help!
