If they don't offer P2P connection, then it is bit of struggle.
As you will need to set your IP from the router and assign/forward the ports etc.
These Chinese ones are really PITA.
Hope it gets sorted, I can't say much more unless I have it in front of me. Do you have manual with ? Maybe try that you might something helpful.0 -
the manual is a very small piece of paper , bad language conversion , there is a P2P heading in the machines onboard menu , and I can write down all/any settings that are displayed , I have amended one setting in order to view from my home compurer , the ip was something like 192.168.1.890 , I think this was out of range of my router so set it to 192.168.1.9 and it was viewable , this setting has not affected the above problem0

Is this the old type of DVR which requires port forwarding in your router or the newer cloud type which you access via a manufacturers server. If it's the first type you'll need to know which port(s) it uses and set up port forwarding in your router. You'll also probably need a dynamic dns service such as no-ip to give you a url to access rather than your home IP which will change periodically.
IME Android apps work a whole lot better than the poor quality Windows programs you get supplied with these things. Some just rely on rubbish activex controls. The Android IPCam Viewer app works with hundreds of different CCTV devices.
To offer anything other than very general advice you'll need to provide more info.

I did a quick search on freeip and found http://www.lowcost-security.ch/download/FREEIP.pdf
It looks to me like you have a cloud device so don't need to forward ports but will need to follow the instructions in the pdf. The feedback on the app suggests that the manufacturers server isn't reliable so you could have bought a turkey.0 -
Whats the make ?
If they are Swann then I can help you step by step. As I have the same one. But mine offers P2P connection. So meaning I do not have to worry about port forwarding or any settings.
It is then just plug and play.0 -
Simple, assign it a LAN static IP on the router and port forward using a DNS service as mentioned above.
PS don't forget to set the user to admin and the password to 1234 so we have a nosey around your houseScience isn't exact, it's only confidence within limits.0 -
