I think it's the same in NI but you'll have to check. The details below are for England but i can't see it being much different.

You'll need to sign on to get any more money. You'd probably have to be available for work though. You'll need to make a claim via the JCP call centre for JSA, HB and CTB. When they send your 'customer statement' out (the actual paperwork including all your claim details they took over the phone) they'll also make you an appt to see an assessor/personal adviser at the Jobcentre.

The money you're earning now is less than the law says you need to live on so you'll be entitled to 100% housing and council tax benefit and means you're also entitled to free health care such as eye tests, voucher towards glasses, dental treatment and prescriptions.

However if you do claim JSA it's likely it'll be contribution based if you've always worked and paid NICs. If your wage is then paid on top you'll lose some HB and CTB.
