Hello guys. Advice for my hubby please.
Can anybody lend advice on joing the Police?
Is it a hard process to get through? We know it can take some time. Would it be hard for a Ex Soldier?
We have seen books and DVDs in Amazom on how to pass test/ Assessment centre etc...worth it? In anyone's opinion.
Thankyou in advance:beer:

When a friend of mine joined several years back I remember she was swotting up from a few books. It can't hurt.
I think there are a lot of ex forces personnel in the police. I assume some of the skills and experience are transferable.0 -

An ex-partner of mine joined the Met some years ago. I'm ex military and spent a lot of time with her during her training. There were a lot of ex-military trainees on her in-take. They were the ones that seemed to do better than most: they have a high level of discipline, ware well founded on team work, learn well and most had good life skills and experience that some of the non-military types didn't have.Eat vegetables and fear no creditors, rather than eat duck and hide.0

I'm sure it was explained in a previous thread from yesterday that it was 'plan B' to join police! So thanks for your observation it was appreciated. Next time I will go through Plan A 'lecturer', for the sake of it I suppose.
Thanks for the comment
Southend1...I will buy book for him I think.0 -
Cheers. Yeah Im sure he will be okay. Just seems it has taking someone we know 3 or 4 times to get in. Think he's under impression its absolute nails to get into.0

As far as I'm aware before he can apply he needs to have the certificate of knowledge in policing before - about £1k.
Also you can only apply to one police force at a time and can't apply to one force within 6 months of applying to another0 -
Last time my local force recruited there were 4,000 applicants (the campaign was closed earlier than planned) for 60 positions. It is very competitive!0

There is a lot of information here: https://www.ukpoliceonline.co.uk/index.php?/forum/152-recruitment/ (some of the threads are old but still relevant).
It would also depend what force it was that he was looking at joining as some now have additional requirements (languages they would like / require candidates to speak etc).
There are also day courses available (at a fee) that you can attend to prepare you for the assessment centre, though I didn't bother with that and I don't personally know anyone who was successful that did. I did get one of those 'How2Become' books which, while it couldn't have hurt, I didn't find that helpful.
The whole process from start to finish does take a long time (took about a year in total I think) but I wouldn't say it is particularly different if you are the type of candidate they are looking for.0 -
