Amazon Delivery Drivers

Hi
I am interested in becoming an Amazon Delivery Driver. I've seen adverts, and imagine they need a lot of new drivers for Christmas.
Has anyone done this specific job, and if so, what was it like?
I have delivery driver experience (restaurants), which was reasonably demanding, as you had to deliver multiple meals over distance before they went cold.
Cheers

Hi
A very quick check online and I came up with this....
Janice priest says:
As a former amazon driver,I would not wish that job on my worst enemy, when you arrive at work you have to sort your own parcels load the van yourself when you can get somewhere to park in. The yard, then deliver your 180-230 parcels, not always possible to keep to time,as most people are not always home and next door don't want the hassle of taking in someone else's parcels.don't do the job it's not worth the headache..
or this one....
I worked as delivery driver for amazon, when you work out at the end of day ,you get less than minimum wages, how can we deliver 150-190 parcels a day,its not even a pound for parcel, plus you have to rush on roads , its not easy job, you have to rush, plus if you stuck in traffic its not their problem ,some time I did 14 hours a day and got paid for 10 hours, Absolutely Not With it,Stay away from self-employed delivery jobs.
IMHO working is one thing, slave labor is something else, the choice is yours but I would need to be desperate to take a job like that.0 -
It sounds terrible London50.
Thanks

Here's what Jeff Bezos had to say in response to a critical report, believe who you like.

Thanks Agrinall
I believe however many of the drivers, are employed by agencies, and the drivers are registered as 'self employed.' So it's a very different setup for them.
Cheers

While I find the report a good read the way I see it is that this MIGHT be the case in the USA but a program aired on British tv I believe earlier this year showed an undercover worker filming covertly in a UK warehouse and I am afraid the way that the UK workers are treated has a lot to be desired and if it is to be believed what this report says the workers in the USA are 100 times better off than the UK ones for sure.:(0 -
Have a friend who managed to stick at the job for 4 months.
Long days - at least 12 hours and often more as large number of packages to be delivered - 150+
Pay was £130 a day minus van hire and petrol - actual earnings £80 a day irrespective of hours worked / packages delivered.
Friend conscientious and worked hard - no pay rise but got more parcels to deliver instead as he performed well = longer hours, same pay.
Random inspections of shared van resulting in bill for damage - he refused to pay.
Asked to be a trainer - no extra pay offered. Would have made the day longer as training a newbie but no reduction in packages required to be delivered = longer day!

Wouldn't bother.
Im a self employed courier/man and van. I was with them a week before I told them to shove their job. Your expected to be quick quick quick, traffic is always your fault. Youll always get told "you must be quicker" you have to load and sort your own load. You would be expected to go out overloaded and illegaly if its particularly busy. I got told on my 5th day not to bother going back if I didn't deliver every parcel in my van.
You get treated like cr4p, Pay is rubbish (I was lucky if I got to take home £45 a day after paying out for van related costs) and hours are stupid.
I ended up pushing all the parcels out of the back of my van on my last day and telling them to shove it.No man is your friend, No man is your enemy. Every man is your teacher.

Thanks Redvision and DJP64, I am glad I didn't chase up this 'opportunity.' I did restaurant deliveries years ago - it involved speed, and some pressure (not bad pay.)
What you are referring to, sounds much worse.
Thanks for clarifying things.
Cheers
