Even with 50% off i would never buy from a high street jeweller. It's still a rip off. Jewellery Quarter in Birmingham or Hatton Garden or second hand are much better value and quality for your money.
Think about it, if Ernest Jones can give you 50% off and still make a profit their stuff is way overpriced.0 -
Nothing that you couldn't find yourself on t'internet.
.... and some of what he has written is total bilge, such as this post:Set a diamond in Platinum. There is only £150 quid of difference. White gold is light and yellows as the rhodium wears off which happens quickly. Platinum is super strong, super rare and heavier than gold. All Tiffany, Cartier and DeBeers rings are platinum. Diamonds don't come out of them
The price difference between using different metals in a setting is going to depend upon the amount of metal used.
The plating on white gold does not wear off quickly, it will depend upon the thickness of the plate, the amount of time the ring is worn, whether it rubs against another ring worn next to it etc etc
The jewellers he mentions do use metals other than platinum for their engagement rings :http://www.tiffany.co.uk/engagement/rings?lppromo=LPC0621
Of course a stone can come out of a platinum setting if it isn't secure.0 -
Don't forget to haggle too! The profit margins are massive, so you have have a good position to knock money off - especially if you buy somewhere where they have lots of competition.0
