I was thinking about having the wheels refurbed on my Mazda, and found a website which seemed to offer an excellent service. You sent them payment first, and they sent a set of wheels (fully refurbed) from their stock, by courier. You then had a week to get the tyres changed over, put your old wheels in the boxes supplied with the new, and call the courier to take them away. Of course, this depends on the company having a set of suitable wheels in stock, but it seems a very hassle-free way of doing it. The car is only off the road for the time it takes to swap the tyres over. Problem is, I have lost the link to their website. Anyone know it? I seem to recall the cost was about £250 for four wheels, more if your existing wheels were unsuitable for refurbishment.

That would be a purely cosmetic refurb. The OP's wheel in question would definitely be "unsuitable".

I paid £30 for my wheel few months back and it was the difficult one.
    Titanium rotor blade.
    Amazing guy.

If it's that hefty a clout, has the wheel had any structural damage? If so, a cosmetic epoxy "repair" is a very, very bad route to go down.

Unless the rim is particularly unusual or exotic, replacing it will almost certainly be the cheapest solution.
It's very easy to tell if the wheel has been structurally damaged though, and if it hasn't any weight difference can be solved with weights. Simple.

I have to admit, I don't have easy access to X-ray equipment or even penetrative dye,

If there's chunks out big enough to knock the balance, then it's definitely toast.
  • Went to see my local guy last night and he said no problem, 60 quid. However, he did hum and haw a bit about matching the colour and then decided that it would be fine. I took his business card and said I would get back to him? I'm now a bit unsure because of his immediate reaction.
  • I did my own wheels with a kit I got from ebay. if its only minor damage it does job it does have filler

I got mine from ebay from this seller

Sure. I'm looking for refinishing, whereas the OP is in the area of 'repair'. Not the same thing.

If that's a response to my post, then it's not the same thing. Lap-tab (http://www.lap-tab.co.uk/alloywheels.php) seems to be a drive-in, while-you-wait service, whereas the one I was thinking of was done entirely by courier and the car stayed at home. If you were not replying to my post, ignore.
