Tenth Anniversary Combo Breaker I've been Money Tipped!
I had some bad news in relation to the new job. I was supposed to be booked onto a training day on Monday 21st September and start the job the day after, but there's been a "mix up" and now they're all fully booked until the 19th October, and I can't start until after I've done the training day. My next full payday is going to be 27th November, over 10 weeks away and I'll have to get Christmas out of that :( Spent most of last night awake worrying.

Going to be ok this month (just about) but the OH will have to take over bills completely the 6 weeks after. Trying to raise some funds still on eBay but no luck yet, and posted a few things on Facebook as well.

    Hi OP,

Couldn't read and run. Stop worrying about Christmas - you can do it on the cheap. Just takes a little creativity, and a lot of restraint to only buy what you can afford. Do you have a home bargains near you, they are great for cheap pressies.

Hopefully you will learn to say no to things, its the hardest part as you think you're depriving someone, but you're not.

Thanks DomRavioli. Yes thankfully I live in an area with lots of Home Bargains, B&Ms, poundshops etc and some good local facebook selling sites. I'll be scouring them for some pressies.

It's going well, thank you for asking!

I'm just going into my 4th week. I'm enjoying working with the public and it's nice being within 5 minutes walking distance :)

Financially, I'm just about managing to keep my head above water. The OH has helped out more with the bills, I got paid for my first weeks work, I managed to get a small bookkeeping gig for £100 and I sold some stuff on eBay for the value of about £150.

I've just gone into my overdraft a little bit now, but I get paid in 12 days so I'm trying to keep it to an absolute minimum, hopefully no more than £100 in my overdraft by the time I get paid. Potentially not even that, I'm going to do top-up shops as and when we need groceries and will probably only need another £10 electric (house was on a leccy key when we moved in) plus a couple of bills to go out. It would be nice to be not in my overdraft at all, but I don't think I have anything of value left to sell and can't think of another way to make it up. Any ideas welcome!

When I got paid for my first week, I was taxed at 50%. I contacted my companies payroll department who said it should be back to normal this month. The "should" part worries me. If I get taxed 50% of this months payday it 'll turn from a little mess into a big mess. I also tried to contact the revenue but was on hold for an hour before giving up  so all I can do is cross my fingers and hope payroll know what they're talking about.

Good bits of news, the OH won £500 worth of flooring for our living room, the company are bringing some samples round on Tuesday :)

And it's my birthday on the 23rd :) it'll be so nice to have some nice new things after months and months of not being able to buy anything!

Just thought I'd do a quick update as I've not posted for a little while. I'm back on track with my money, and have even managed to get about £400 pounds saved up, something I'm proud of considering the circumstances over the last few months! This is going towards anything I need to pay out for my sister's hen party and wedding in May, and the remainder is towards a holiday. I want to save a total of £600 for both of these things by the payday after next (27th February).

Upcoming expenses include getting my car serviced and a couple of small repairs to it, plus carpeting the bedroom.

We're also potentially planning to start a family in the next year or so, so I would like to save up enough money to be able to take the full 12 months maternity leave. To have no drop in income at all, I've worked that out at about £4000.

Big and exciting goals this year! :)
  • Sounds like you're on track, well done! How did your OH win £500 worth of flooring?! That's a great prize, you must be delighted with that!

He comps mainly on twitter, that one was a simple retweet twitter comp :) we've had it fitted now and it's really transformed the room, very happy with it!
