No, but you could generate more instead of letting the number providing company keep more than their fair share
You state " I earn 1p per minute every time I am called on this number" that is revenue generating !
By using a company that gives you more, you can earn more, I did it for the same reason as you, but admit the revenue share does come into it, I do not earn a lot from it, but if I am going to do something like this, it is best to maximise the result. :beer:Don`t steal - the Government doesn`t like the competition0 -
The revenue generating is a by product of the vindictiveness - I don't plan to retire on the pennies that I happen to earn.
If I am being 'robbed', what about the poor OP who paid £9.95 for the privilege of an 0871 number?
By your logic, anyone who has savings in any account, bar the market leader is also being robbed. As are those who have an ISA which is not the current table topper etc. I bet they are being robbed of thousands of pounds too, not just a few pence
There must be millions being robbed out there who don't even realise ...0 -
Oh I love this idea. Love it, love it, love it. I can be as petty and vindictive as the next woman (are you reading this Hotpoint ?) Am visiting family at present, but as soon as I get home.....All Art is the transfiguration of the commonplace

One little flaw - businesses generally pay more for their phone calls than home lines. So it makes little difference to at least some of them if they call you on an 01 or an 0870 number - they'll be paying about the same.
That's how BT got away with calling 0870 national rate for so long - for businesses it often was.0 -
Get your own 0870 number... this one might keep me smirking for months! My TV is broken!

Edit: refunded £515 for TV 1.5 years out of warranty - thank you Sale of Goods Act! :j0 -
Don't forget 0870 numbers will lose their revenue sharing facility from February 2008, and will actually cost you money to receive the call, better to get an 0844 or 0871, although be careful with 0871 as they are coming under ICSTIS control from Feb 2008 although not all details are known about how they are going to regulate them as of yetDon`t steal - the Government doesn`t like the competition0

Alright the word "robbed" might be the wrong word, no need to be so pedantic about it, I was only stating that you could have got more revenue from it than you are doing, nor did I imply you could retire from it.
Nobody needs to pay for these numbers, there are plenty of free suppliers out there.
And yes, the majority out there do not realise the cost of these calls, and still think they are "national rate".
There are a lot of companies using these number, DVLA, HMRC, DWP, banks building societies even bl**dy Argos, as an example if you needed to call any of these numbers over a 5 day week, every week,(not hard to do),at an average of 15 minutes per day at,5p per minute, (using 50 weeks),
that equates to £187.50 over a year that you would not pay if you did not have to use an 084/087 number, (I have assumed a paid for monthly package where your calls are inclusive, whereas 084/087 are not included ),
and even if you do not have a paid for package, calls to 01 landlines can cost as little as 5p per call, so you can do the maths to suit your own usability.Don`t steal - the Government doesn`t like the competition0 -
Fair enough derrick - I think you and I are pretty much singing from the same hymn sheet on this subject!
I should keep my pettyness in check and be angsty against 'them' and not MSE'rs!
This week I am mostly being peeved by Morgan Stanley - but that's a rant for another forum :rotfl:0 -
