Natwest Charging Closed Business Account

In July 2014, my dad closed his business account. He went into branch with the correct ID paid the £200 odd outstanding charges and was ensured the account was closed with no further action necessary.

Today, 14 months later he received a phone call informing him he has almost £1,500 in bank charges outstanding on his business account...which he closed.

He was unable to get through security to talk to someone about the matter as he has no card information, nor could he inform the staff member of the most recent direct debit or similar (because to him it hasn't existed for over a year!). Eventually after giving DOB and addresses he was informed he would receive a call back shortly. That was 10 hours ago.

Im just after some advice here; we moved house 10 months ago and had all post redirected to our new address for 6 months. Nothing was received from Natwest. I also have a business account with them and am constantly receiving annoying post regarding my account and similar offers.

What is our best course of action here? I don't have any proof the account was closed other than the branch name and rough date my dad went into branch. Most of his self employed information including bank info was shredded in our house move, although we will have another good look later this week.

Has anyone experienced anything similar?

Thanks

  • The account did not close last year - that is obvious.
If Nat West won't speak to him then he must start a complaint - how to do this will be on their website.
