Just had this from Hartingtons. First I order from Wang and get an 'I'm sorry I can't fulfill your order', now I get this, I am grateful for their honesty tho':

We regret to advise that we are unable fulfill your order for Chocolate UGG Australia boots.

Unfortunatly Deckers contracted the manufacture of the December deliveries for their Australian and New Zealand distributors from an alternative source to their usual Chinese suppliers.

Having now seen this stock we do not believe the quality of finish to be of an equivalent standard to the boots we have been selling or to those currently available in the UK and Europe. To avoid future complications we have declined this delivery and will now wait for the Chinese replacements next year.

Please note that your card has not been charged.

:T three cheers to Hartings for not palming buyers off with the inferior looking australian made boots.

I dont think you would be happy with them if you compared them in stores or against others you may already own.

The labelling is still plasticky in them, meaning straight away you'd think they are fake. They are different in the heel area too.

I have an order with hartings, I wonder if they will fulfil it.

This is just another reason I'm no longer buying UGG brand boots as Deckers obviously don't give a damn about their customers and are just out to maximise their profits. I'm also very skeptical about their recent claims that the UGG's supplied to AD were old stock from 2004, but that they are in fact the same poor quality boots Hartings have just refused to stock and sell!

I never have been a slave to branding and never will be. I much prefer quality and value for money than a label ;):D

Its obvious AD had 'new' stock, Ugg themselves told me they make stock in australia for supply in australia, so clearly they hoped that people outside of australia would never meet this stock to compare the two together.

I'm glad Hartings have turned them down, and they must know how that stock would affect their reputation.

Unfortunately though it probably means my order wont be sent, they are a present and would of been great if they had been here. Maybe I can keep them on backorder and get them despatched as soon as the china stock arrives. I would rather have the wait than my sister in law be disappointed if she got those other boots.

Chameleon, you have the canterburys, can I ask you honestly do they stay well supported after long time wear on the heels?

If you go to the community on ebay you can find the member there. :D
• hi, thanks mookie for the reply and i was going to ask chameleon the very same thing about the heels on the canterburys, are they as strong as the uggs and also do they look as good when folded over?

I have been trying to get uggs from Taylors but their delivery hasn't arrived and in their email they now say it looks like they are going to be alot later than expected, am worried they will be poor quality aswell after the ones Hartings were offered, although it may not affect the american companys.

I have looked at the canterburys before but could never make up my mind, (suppose i was trying to buy for the name of uggs too) but maybe i should just go with quality instead as long as the heels don't topple over, they will be worn alot.

I don't know how to paste the link in - i'm not very technical. Go to the first post on page 108 from Blue Monkey and there is a link there. Hope it helps you.

I'd say my UGG's and Canterbury's have probably had roughly equal wear time and the Canterbury's look in much better shape and have a firmer heel support. I'm trying to upload a pic to show you the difference but imageshack is refusing to play ball at the moment

I've also got a pair of short boots from Kiwi-Sheepskins (cost me £26 delivered as end of line stock a few mths ago) which I use as slippers so are worn constantly from the minute I get out of bed in the morning until I get back into bed at night (unless I go out and wear other boots of course) and these are also still in fantastic shape with great heel support.

• I have canterbury's too and they are very hard wearing and the heels dont dip down.
Cogito ergo sum. Google it you lazy sod !!
• Lookalike versions of these boots are available at all Costco branches (Well, I saw them in Costco Bristol yesterday !) - At just £19.95 + VAT ! happy shopping !

What’s the deal with cheap Ugg Boots?

While trendy sheepskin Ugg boots typically cost over £170 on the high street, it’s possible to save heaps by ordering from Australian websites which deliver to the UK.

When is an Ugg not an Ugg?

Having done some digging, it appears that in Australia, the word Ugg is a generic term for sheepskin boots. So just because a pair of Ugg Boots isn’t made by “UGG® Australia” –the famous brand beloved by celebs such as Pammy Anderson – they aren’t necessarily fake.

Aussie folks have been making Ugg-style sheepskin boots for over a century. Many MoneySavers have given feedback that alternative brands such as Kiwi Sheepskins and Snug Australia can be just as snug and comfy as UGG Australia. Kiwi Sheepskins start from £50 inc delivery and Snug Australia from £62; so if you’re not fussed about the posh brand, these can be a baa-gain (sorry!).

How to check that boots are genuine UGG Australia

The famous UGG Australia brand is made by Deckers corporation. If that's what you're after there are ways to spot imposters.
• UGG Australia boots have a large middle G on the logo, as seen on the Office website
• They have real sheepskin fur inside; fakes often use synthentic
• They are made in New Zealand, Australia, and more recently, China
• If you want to check that a retailer is legit, email Deckers at info@uggaustralia.com and ask that retailer is licensed to sell UGG Australias
There's an interesting explanation of the history of the Ugg trademark on Wikipedia.

The cheapest supplier of 'genuine' Uggs

Update 17 December 07. Some MoneySavers have expressed concerns over the quality and legitimacy of Ugg Australia boots from one seller, Australia Direct. To investigate, we sent a pair of the suspected fake boots to Deckers, the company that owns Ugg Australia. They confirmed that they were indeed genuine, but were old stock from 2004.

Two suppliers which have had good reports from MoneySavers are Kiwi website hartings.co.nz and American site rei.com. Yet please read up to date feedback from MoneySavers on this thread before choosing a retailer.

How to pay

Using the right piece of plastic is the cheapest way... but make sure it's the right plastic, read the Spending Overseas article for details.

Credit cards are better than debit cards!

Spend on your credit card and you have more rights than you do on a debit card. This is all about Section 75 of the Consumer Credit Act which makes the card provider jointly liable with the retailer if anything should go pear-shaped.

Up until recently this didn't apply to goods bought overseas but this was challenged so buy abroad and you are now protected. Pay for goods over £100 fully or partially on your credit card and if something goes wrong you can simply make a claim direct against the card provider without having to contact the retailer at all.

Don't forget to factor in customs charges and delivery times

If you're new to overseas shopping, remember that items can take longer to arrive than those bought in the UK; often two to three weeks. You’ll also have to pay customs duty on goods coming into the UK from non-EU countries. There a full explanation on customs charges in the Buy from the US article (while the article concentrates on the US, most of the info's still relevant when buying from any overseas website).
