(Sorry): But need help how to even start a PPI claim

Hello,
firstly apologies, I know there's lots of PPI threads about. Been trying to read and make sense of them and get a simple trail of step by step things I need to do to claim.

Firstly, I have a few bank accounts/loans and don't know if I have had PPI on them or not. I have closed some accounts down and don't think I have their details?

What would I need to do? Where do I start?

If someone could help and please keep it simple in a step by step guide would be great.

Thank you.

Ask the banks if you had PPI.

There is actually nothing wrong with having PPI. The issue itself isnt over the product. It was whether it was sold to you correctly or not. So, if you had it and you feel it was mis-sold then you make a complaint to the bank giving your reasons for complaint.

  • Good evening,

I like others do not have a clue where to start with reference to claiming PPI. I also believe I had a credit card which had PPI on yet the bank was originally the earlier version of Lloyds before it went LloydsTSB and back again - am I right is the assumption that even though all banks change names partners etc my details will still be on file?

Many thanks in advance and any other tips or advice for a numpty like me would be gratefully received...

yes and no. Yes they will retain records but only for a given period. The further back you go, the less likely records will be retained. In your case, you are looking at over 20 years ago. So, records will be light to non-existent. Not impossible but on a closed account it would have low odds.

  • Dunstonh - many thanks for your reply :D

Would you then suggest going through a company to try and claim or having a go myself ?

I am sure like others I feel am probably owed something yet aware that it will probably take ages back and forth so a quicker time scale would prove better...

    Regards

Do not go through a company unless you're a fan of wasting money - do it yourself.

all a CMC does is put a form they completed with you in the post to the lender. Its a very expensive stamp.
