Hi, I run a small business and I have many customers that ask if they can leave a review. I have googled trustpilot etc but some of the comments about 'fake' reviews has put me off. Does anyone have any tips?

What do you think the reason is that you have many customers that wish to review your product or service?
e.g. Do they with to praise you? If so, as a small business, why can't they simply tell you? Or possibly write to you?
Do they wish to criticise or complain? Do you have a customer compliant procedure? Do you clearly advertise it?
Are they simply wishing to drive business to/from you (depending on their review)? If so, for a small business, nothing beats word of mouth/personal recommendation.
Consider providing a company feedback form when you supply/invoice your customers. They could return this anonymously if that is the reason behind their request, either in a feedback box instore or by post (as appropriate).0 -
If you have a website, you can display it there.
Or ask customers to post there.0 -
Reviews are definitely a double-edged sword. On one hand, a high number of potential customers are influenced by reviews when shopping online (source: https://moz.com/blog/new-data-reveals-67-of-consumers-are-influenced-by-online-reviews) but as this article also points out, negative reviews can impact the number of customers who buy from you.
Personally, if customers are requesting a platform to leave you a review, then chances are they have positive things to say. Those with complaints will typically voice them directly to you.
If you do decide to have a review option available, remember to be vigilant and, if you do get a negative one, address it initially and then give them a direct contact number or email so they can voice their complaint to you away from the public platform.Just Keep Swimming!0
