Excellent tech advice, once again. They really should get something like an "Xbox 360 60gb hardrive". :rotfl:

Which if you read post 9, combined with a little knowledge will tell you a whole hell of a lot. 60gb hard drive was only available for the original series of Xbox 360 & as a result is incompatible with the 4gb 360. As far as I remember (and well, I fully admit the memory isn't what it should be) you get 250gb, 320gb & 500gb models made by microsoft themselves. (Waiting on you finding a nice 60gb HDD made by a third party which no doubt exists)

Amazon have some of the better prices I've seen for them brand new - £60 for the 500gb seems about right.

What? No, that's not right at all. Where are you getting this "knowledge"?!? :rotfl: There was an original pre-slim 4GB 360 (I can see one from where I'm sitting). And both pre- and post-slim 360 HDDs are compatible with both pre- and post-slim 360s, despite the plastic outer shells not being the same - again, I'm looking at a pre-slim 4GB 360 with a 360 slim HDD connected, right now. I can assure you that it has been working just fine for many years. :p
Q: What kind of discussions aren't allowed?
A: It goes without saying that this site's about MoneySaving.

Q: Why are some Board Guides sometimes unpleasant?
A: We very much hope this isn't the case. But if it is, please make sure you report this, as you would any other forum user's posts, to forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com.

Where's the knowledge coming from - well, let's just say I've sold more than enough of the things between 2005 & 2010 to be fairly sure I've got it right. The original model Xbox 360 came in a few configurations, but a 4gb one is NOT one of them - at best the core/arcade had no hard drive with a small memory card. (Which was in the MB's - as someone with a brain cell functioning in there I bought the 20gb version on release.)

Given I haven't needed to jerry-rig up any solution I can't comment on your own console situation. However I'm also going to say that for the average person (which one can guess as the OP was looking for advice here they are) it's a significantly better idea to go with the product designed for the job.

    o_O

That's the very definition of "buy cheap, buy twice" - spending extra for the 20GB model when the HDD would almost certainly have to be replaced by an actually-useful larger HDD ASAP. To date, you're the only person I've encountered who bought a 20GB model instead of getting an HDD cheaper separately or getting a useful HDD from the start! (Were you saying that you did this because you only had a brain call functioning at the time? I agree completely!)
