Travel insurance to cover employer's computer

I am going on holiday and would like to take my laptop. Unfortunately it belongs to my employer, rather than to me. Would any travel insurance policy cover it? And since it cost about 1,500 pounds, would it be over the limit for the policies on offer?

  • before worrying about insurance i would first check that this usage is ok with your company.
effectively you can insure against anything ....a good old fashioned insurance broker may be your best bet

I agree with hammy, definitely check with your company before you take the laptop on holiday. Replacing it might be the least of your problems if its stolen.
Also if its a holiday, do you really need to take the laptop with you? The whole purpose is surely to get away from everyday problems, especially work related ones

Thanks for the responses. I will have an important work-related meeting on my last day in Paris, and it might be useful to be able to show my French colleague some of the documents/other information stored on my computer. Other than that, my son might want to play computer games at times.

I have taken this computer on trips that combined business and pleasure in many far-out locations (India, China) so I don't think that permission from work is an issue, although yes, that is something to check out. On those occasions it was covered by my employer's insurance, but since this time I am paying my own fare I won't have that benefit.
