what do you mean by term dates?

    http://www.shef.ac.uk/about/dates/2007_08.html

this has the dates when students should be in sheffield, over both semesters including details of christmas and easter holidays. i imagine that the first 3 weeks back after christmas will be exams (i.e. 12 teaching weeks before christmas, total 15 weeks in a semester). the 12 teaching weeks in semester 2 will be broken up by the easter break.

Can I assume this is for student loans?

If so it works out with the holidays:

    Semester 1: September - Feb
    Semester 2: Feb - June

Term 1: September starting date - break up for christmas vacation
Term 2: January Return after christmas - Easter holidays
Term 3: Back after easter hols to end of year (i.e. June)

The Student loan is paid in 3 parts. One at the start of each term. Semesters are how the university is structured for its teaching and exams - the loans are different. My son is entering his 3rd year at Sheffield and that is how he has received his loan for the last 2years ie at the start of each term ie Sept/Oct then Jan and then April. Hope this helps,

    Term 1: 24/09/07 (including intro/freshers week) - 22/12/07
    Term 2: 21/01/08 - 15/03/08
