Why is Firefox's spellcheck so BAD?!

Options
Why does Firefox's spellcheck have so many common words missing?! And what kind of bizarre words does it think are real?!

Is it just me?

I just typed the word "half-heartedly". Apparently that's not a word (bloomin' hyphens!), and I'm offered these possible corrections:

half-heatedly
half-hardheartedly
half-halfheartedly
half-downheartedly
half-softheartedly

Whaaaat?! Stupid machines! They'll never take over the world if they can't get their spelling right!

  • It's because the Americans can't spell.

  • Hi,

half-heartedly works for me, in FF.

When typing, left click on a word, down to languages, and select English(UK).

Why not add in one of the British English Dictionary add-ins?

Unfortunately I can't fix why Word 2010 objects to "some time" (rather than sometime)...

As others have found, for some reason FF has a habit of defaulting back to English (US) no matter what you do to try to make UK the default.

Put in Zuckerberg in FF and see what comes up.

I use the 'British English Dictionary' add-on

    It says:-
This is an updated version of Mark Tyndall's extension. It packages David Bartlett's British English Dictionary R1.19 for Firefox, Thunderbird and SeaMonkey.British English Dictionary R1.19 for Firefox, Thunderbird and SeaMonkey by David Bartlett.

To enable, right-click in a multi-line text box, select "Languages", then "English / United Kingdom".

(This is an updated version of Mark Tyndall's British English Dictionary extension made to work with the latest Firefox, Thunderbird and SeaMonkey releases)

    Homepage = https://github.com/FlyingTopHat/Mozilla-British-English-Dictionary

Amusingly, it underlines Firefox, Thunderbird and SeaMonkey!

    Half-heartedly seems ok , but ok doesn't!

Zuckerberg has been mentioned before :o

The only time I've had the US version is when I first downloaded it years ago....It's never reverted back since putting English UK dictionaries in there..:)
