BT 1571 & BT Privacy problems?

  • As far as I can see you can't cancel 1571 online so you have to ring them. Just summoning up the energy to do this now. Wonder how many people will get caught out and not make the 2 obligatory calls a month to get it free.
  • I recently cancelled the caller display due to the fact BT had deceided to charge me for it even tho' I had been making certain calls from my BT line.

I tried the numbers suggested and voice was saying the same as it had been for other posters. I deceided to telephone BT and request the privacy package, the lady I spoke to advised me it was on my line. I advised that the caller display was working, she said she would need to re-order the BT privacy as that usually is the problem to why it stops working. She said if it wasn't working by Monday, to telephone 151 and speak with the faults team. Fingers crossed I won't have to. :)

There is no national fault, they just don't want to do it because it costs them money.

How many other posts do you see here titled "Why has my caller display stoped working" if it was a national fault there would be loads.

Then there is the question of false advertising.
There has been a national fault with the Caller Display as part of BT Privacy. But the fault has lied with the option for the caller display no being available on the customisation settings for BT Privacy at Home, when ordering.

This has now been rectified and all an advisor needs to do is go in and change the customisation settings.

This has only effected WLR3 customers, thus the reason why there hasn't been a deluge of postings about this.
If saved £2710 and only spent the interest (Based on a return of 5%), you would have enough money to pay your TV Licence every year. Saving you £7452.50 over a period of 55 years, based on you buying a license from the age of 20 until your 75 at a cost of £135.50.
  • Just to update, mine has now been activated and is fully working :)

topherxp you are correct the problem on effects WLR3 customers. The problem as been fixed, all you need to do is contact BT (0800 022 3089 or residiental.services@bt.com) get the advisor to create a modify order and add the free caller display to your BT privacy service.

1571 is a nasty service that people who call you hate you for!

Why should a caller be charged to find out you are busy on a call when the free busy tone would have been more than adequate. Also they get stung for you not getting to the phone in time, and you might not try and call them back. 1571 was / is given away free simply to make more money for the telcos not for the benefit of the customer.
It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!
(OK my English isn't great, the sciences, maths & IT are my strong points!)
  • Still no Caller Display

She's clocked up 14 hours on the phone to BT now (or India Telecom in some cases) and was even promised that it would be activated by 8am the following morning in one case - it wasn't. Everyone she speaks to tells her a different story.

So, we're off to Trading Standards later today as we feel that BT may be in breach of contract.
