The car wont have a distributor , the coil pack does the job
Coil pack does the job of the ignition coil, the ECU handles the job of the distributor.

Obviously needs checked, but sounds like classic v/x coil pack.
Start saving witty ripostes now for garage nonsense about needing a new ecu though: Terrible techs often miss the other common fault of loss of the earth to the ecu and rip-off customers by replacing an ecu when they have absolutely no reason to. An extra earth wire would have fixed.0 -
I did mention up thread that the coil pack with the engine management unit does the job the distributor used toStrider590 wrote: »Coil pack does the job of the ignition coil, the ECU handles the job of the distributor.

I replaced a coil pack recently and got the replacement from euro parts . was about 35 quid ,plug leads were about 30 quid. I think the astra has single coil pack. These were cheapo version, but still adequate for the car they went on (15 years old ) Those and plugs renewed completely transformed the cars running performance. Petrol consumption dropped by quite a margin too.

Had a woman in a Cooper S try to race my kit car recently, she made herself look very silly indeed :rotfl:
37 year old 8 valve pushrod engine, sprint/race spec, running twin weber carburettors and an electromechanic ignition system, spits flames, hits 60 in 5.2 seconds and I built it in my garage.... That's a REAL car
