I have a TeckNet® USB 3.0 4 Ports PCI Express Interface USB 3.0 Expansion Card which I have just discovered is not compatible with Windows 10 so unless I can get suitable drivers I am just going to replace it and put it in my wife's computer.
It works OK with Windows 8.1.

Any suggestions for a replacement PCI card that will be OK with Windows 10.

Or I could do what I keep threatening and go back to Windows 8.1, except I would need to do a new install because Windows.old has vanished.

I have, that's why I know it doesn't work properly.

Are you trying to install the software that comes with it or just the driver?
A lot of the time the software doesn't work but the actual driver does.

Aye it should work fine, IIRC there was no major change to the way Windows handles drivers from Windows 7 through to 10, so Windows 8 and 8.1 drivers should be fine.

If you've got the driver disk put it in the drive, then go to device manager and tell it to load the drivers from a manually chosen location and point it at the disk.

As Big Graeme says a lot of the time it's the software bundled with the drivers (or the software installer) that doesn't like the new OS.
it used to be a massive issue with some games as they often had anti-piracy code that limited the game to running on specific OS's - as could be seen by the fact you could often get a game to work on a newer OS with a cracked version of the exe that didn't have the anti-piracy code.

if you can see the main chip on the card, make a note of what it says (or take a picture), then do a google for the name/code number on it.
Most USB cards use chips made by a very small number of companies, and often there will be a generic driver on the chip manufacturers website (often all the people the put the chip onto the card and package it for retail do with that driver is put it on a branded disk, sometimes with their own branded version of the installer).

No, I am trying to use it.

I have done some googling and I am not the only person who has a problem with this card.

I wonder sometimes if people actually read the post before answering.

A quick google says that's a VIA VL800 series chip in the controller, can you confirm ?

The latest driver for the VL800 is here:

    http://www.via-labs.com/archive/doc/VIA_XHCI_Driver_V4.90A_AP.zip

    release notes:

Either way though looks end of life so don't hold your breath that an official W10 driver will be forthcoming.

Thanks Fightsback but I had already installed these drivers and they didn't help then Windows 10 decided that they were out of date and overwrote them with newer Microsoft drivers.

So I am back to where I started.

Good old windows 10 and forced updates, a clusterfsck just waiting to happen :)

You can apparently block driver updates using this tool but I've not used it myself.

Well that was unexpected, I contacted the manufacturer and I am getting my money back.

Now to look for a replacement.
