Powergen

We have not been charged for gas since 2003, in a switch back to powergen we signed derect debit forms and our account for gas never got opened !!

Anyway we have enjoyed until now free gas, powergen have recently presented a bill for the last two years gas esitmated - the estimate seems a little high, now our meters have been read regularly so we have asked for a accurate bill twice and each time they have said they will produce a flow reading and re-work the bill, we have been passed to the debt collection department now and we are still disputing the bill, but the information we are asking for they can not produce !!

Now i know each and every one of you reading will be screaming pay the bill you **** youve enjoyed free gas and the gas bill is lower than what we would have payed over the three years, but this is not our mistake and the more i can squeeze from them i will !!

any comments gratefully receieved !!

When was the bill produced? I assume as it was for 2 years it was a few months ago?
They can now only bill for 1 year now (since July 1st I think - await corrections), so if it was produced after that it should only be 12 months.

Send them your own estimate - use the final read from your previous supplier if you still have it (they might if you don't), and a recent read to estimate a read for the day they are starting the billing from.

Never hurts to start making payments - set up a plan to stop the debt recovery and protect your credit score, they should give you plenty of time to pay it off so you have time to renegotiate the original read.

Just make sure you keep on top of them.
  • Thanks, the bill was produced and it arrived with me right at the end of june

I will take on board your comments and make more moves, fair play thay have held thier hands up and offered a 2 year payment plan, we have always known that eventually they would catch up and we do have the money set aside so its not a major suprise or finacial burden !!
