Hi everyone, I'm (hopefully) moving in a week or so and would appreciate some advice on packing and cleaning my kitchen. I've started to run down the freezer. I'm not a minimalist and have a lot of stuff. Not looking forward to it as it seems a mammoth task!

I must remember that "Money Saving" is not buying heavily discounted items that I do not need. :hello:

In addition to running down the freezer I'd also suggest running down tins and dry stocks. The more food you can eat the less you'll have to move--and it will save you a bit on shopping which you can then put towards any re-stocking you need to do.
I'd also suggest in the coming weeks to de-clutter one cupboard or drawer per day. Take everything out, wipe it down, get rid of what you don't use and pack anything you want to keep but won't need before moving. This will save you time on the packing and cleaning that has to be done closer to time.0 -
Now is a good time to get rid of things you don't like before you move..Why bother paying to move things if you don't use or like them? (if you need inspiration you could try listening to this - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9BFwZ0aWjKM)
Ditto fairy princess - start packing things you don't need now, you'll be amazed what little you can get away with using especially short term.
As for cleaning, the more you can pack away, the easier it will be to clean as you go along..maybe a kind friend or even a professional can help when everything's packed up..

Thank you. I have gone through the drawers and one cupboard and packed away non essential things. I gave away a pine cabinet and you wouldn't believe the dust and stuff that was behind it! I also found the skirting has yellowed where there was no light to it.
I will do a bit everyday and hopefully it will all come together in the end.I must remember that "Money Saving" is not buying heavily discounted items that I do not need. :hello:0 -
I had to disperse my kitchen among all the boxes. Box number 1 was the one I left open till the day of the move and had some cutlery and cups and things I need daily. One box marked 'important kitchen' was my new pans, but the rest went with random other things in boxes as I packed. I had to use an extra large box for the rolling pin and because it's marble I had to find lightweight things that were long and/or big to go with it.
I survived after I packed it all on not many teaspoons, a wooden spoon, some cutlery and a couple of old saucepans. But numbering the boxes meant that I knew the bigger the number the later I packed it and so need the stuff inside.
I cleaned as I emptied a cupboard or drawer and ended up with them all empty for the last few days and everything lived on the draining board/side.
It is a hassle but once I'd got rid of all the occasional use stuff there was a lot less left. After I moved I eventually found the dry goods because I didn't label that box properly.
Good luck with the move!0 -
Check out this thread which gave me valuable advice when we moved last week.

I echo what the others have said. Get rid of stuff that you neither want nor need. But don't make the mistake that I did. I got rid of some good storage items as they were cluttering up my current kitchen and were unused, such as those extra wire basket thingies that give you an extra shelf. Moved into my new place only to discover that the kitchen layout was rubbish and I could have done with them!!!!!Father Ted: Now concentrate this time, Dougal. These
