Laptop fan noise

My Medion laptop's fan is constantly making a noise. I decided to look t the task Manager and was surprised to see 100% CPU usage even when no application that I know of was being used. Is this normal?
Top five were:
System 25.2%
Services and controller app 18.5%
Spooler subsystem app 16.9%
Service Host WIA 11.3%
Antimalware Service executable 9.3%
Should I do anything? If so could someone kindly walk me through what to do?
Thank you.

It's certainly not normal. When all I've got open is a browser I see single digit CPU usage. That's on a low end I3 cpu running W10.
Trouble is there's not a lot to pin any name to there apart from the antimalware.
I don't doubt you'll be getting better advice that this as time goes on but I'd start out running malwarebytes to check there isn't something nasty on the system.
Sample of mine...0 -
Downloaded malwarebytes and nothing found0

Just a long shot but you aren't running two a/v's by any chance, or have recently installed a new a/v and there are remnants of the previous one still on the system?
If I remember, Antimalware Service relates to Windows Defender so disable it if you are using an alternative a/v.0 -
I have exactly the same problem. I bought my Medion laptop last month and the fan runs constantly once you log into a user.
My performance figures are similar to Kwikbreaks (3%, 45%, 5%, 0%)
I have installed Avast but I think that I did remove all of the McAfee trial that came with the laptop.
It is stood on a little table rather than being used on a lap or soft furnishings.
I am watching this thread with hope that it can be resolved.Ditch 100 in January Challenge 100/100

McAfee is well known for leaving stuff behind after a standard Windows uninstall which can cause conflicts with other a/v software.
Try removing any remnants with the McAfee Consumer Product Removal Tool.0 -
I guess it could be some McAfee trial stuff left over but installing Avast disables Defender automatically - at least it did when I installed it.
It may or may not be relevant but the reason I resurrected Avast and put up with it nagging me was because I noticed MSE/Defender was sometimes using what I considered at the time to be excessive CPU. I don't recall the amount but I doubt it was driving the machine to 100% or I would certainly have remembered.0 -
I've disabled Windows Defender and still 100%. I don't know what to change/ When I boot the computer it starts in low percentage but within two minutes of me doing nothing but stare at task manager, it shoots up to 100%.0

Could try Soluto, it will list what runs and when, and give you an idea of what can be stopped (or delayed, to speed up boot)0

Soluto is great for speeding up boot time but for identifying CPU usage something like Process Monitor would perhaps be more relevant for analysing the source of constant disk activity.0

at the bottom of the Task Manager there is a link to 'Resource Manager' which I guess is the same thing but the problem is the list under CPU might as well be a foreign language to me so wouldn't know where to start and don't know how to post screenshots like poster above.0
