Must admit I've never used OO, but the syntax is correct for Excel (not sure if that helps).

All the right brackets are in the right places so it might be that the syntax is slightly different in OO.

Any posts are my opinion and only that. Please read at your own risk.
  • I've had to add a transaction by right-clicking, and my new row lies inbetween rows of common formulae. I've noticed that the software doesn't repeat the formulae that I originally dragged down the columns, so is there a way to do this for the whole new row?

Please may I add to/hijack this thread? I've looked at this spreadsheet and it looks just the job (with a few tweaks) for my use.
However I know only the mere basics of spreadsheets and I'm using WPS (formerly Kingsoft).

My problem is that when I clear the Balance column (which has the formula in) of figures it also clears the formula I entered and saved. I'm copying the cells and right clicking/clear contents. I suppose I could just overwrite the figures I entered but not very satisfactory. Also I've forgot how to put a recurring £ prefix in the money columns..its been a while since doing this :o.
  • Anyone...?

Kingsoft (MSE brownie points there) don't seem to have a template that will do this, so it would be a useful tool for lots of people.

Sorry, I thought this thread had died a death!
IDK the cause of your problems but my sheet should avoid them, although IDU why you would clear the balance. You shouldn't need to alter or even enter anything in that column because those are essentially answer cells. I'm happy to make it publicly available but to get it I'd like you to research which free hosting site could provide the following:
    • It needs to be updatable by a password holder
    • The updated document must be viewable by a third party using the same hyperlink as before
    • It needs to be able to be copied/downloaded (if not, I will provide you with the password)
You'd better PM me if you find such a site so I can upload it ASAP. You must need it pretty urgently to bounce the thread after a couple of hours :)
If you keep your columns as narrow as mine it should automatically convert to bold type like mine did; if you need them wider (for larger sums maybe), G could be narrowed to a sliver.

Odd. According to documentation, it appears that OpenOffice prefers ; to ,.

    So:
    =if(and(b6="";c6="");"";d5+b6-c6)

LibraOffice actively replaces ; with ,.

This may be enough to confuse the formula parser within OpenOffice.

    I don't use OpenOffice, so I can't check this.

Perhaps the OP should consider switching to LibraOffice because OpenOffice is virtually dead now. The last OpenOffice release was over 1 year ago (21st August 2014).

Just a quick post to confirm this is the case.

You can try OpenOffice, LibraOffice and lots of software online for free at https://www.rollapp.com/home without install it.

I'm a little surprised OpenOffice is so fussy about the use of , and ; here.
