Hi,
Apologies if this is covered elsewhere I have had a look through and couldn't see anything specific. My other half is enrolling as a mature student on an Undergrad degree. He had done a 2 year part-time HE course previously but had recieved no loans only a small maintenance grant for this course. We were told he would be entitled to finance for the 3 years of the new course but this has turned out to be wrong. He has to fund the first years tuition and the 2nd and 3rd will be able to have the tuition fee loan. He is getting the Maintenance loan of around 5,500?.
We know it is going to be a struggle this year, I am not on a high income and he has been working infrequently but is looking for a part time job at the mo. We have decided as he needs to do this course we will be using the maintenance loan to cover most of his tuition fee's. I think we fall around 1,300 short of covering the years tuition (we live in Wales so tuition is 6,750.
Does anyone have any advice on how best to make up the shortfall (other than win the lottery or find a magical awesome job lol) before the third term?
I have been looking at short term credit cards as next year we could use part of the maintenance loan to pay off the outstanding money owed. Not having any experience with credit cards I was hoping there may be someone who has experienced this problem! Any advice greatly appreciated :j

Hi, I'm in Scotland so it may be different. I did 2 years at college (HNC/D) and was worried about having to fund my first two years at Uni however when I contacted student finance I was told that it came under a different umbrella and I was entitled to funding for both. So two years of college plus 4 years of Uni but I'll have to fund my post-grad degree myself.
Fee's in Scotland are only £1820 so that might be why.0 -
Go speak to the money advice team at the university that help students with loan applications. Something may have gone wrong on the form and how they process the HE course as previous study hence limiting the loan on the first year.0
