Clydesdale Bank switch bonus (set up new direct debit instead of move, is it oK?)

Hi All,

Clydesdale Bank's switching bonus drew my attention.

I am thinking to open an account with them, fill in the switch form to move from TSB to Clydesdale for example. However, I need 2 active direct debit with Clydesdale in order to qualify for the £150 switching bonus.

At the moment, my TSB account do not have any Direct Debit in it. So even if I complete the switching by filling in the form with Clydesdale, there won't be any direct debit in the new Clydesdale account.

My question is, if I set up 2 new direct debit once the Clydesdale account opened, plus the usual switch account form, will I be still eligible for the bonus? or they only count direct debit that I switch?

Thanks,
Jack

    You must already have active DD's for your TSB account. So better add 2 DD's to TSB before the switch.

    Step 1 Apply for Clydesdale account

    at the same time

    Step 2 Set up 2 DDs on your TSB account

    Step 3 Once the Clydesdale account is up and running, ask them to switch your TSB account

    If for any reason Clydesdale don't accept you, you have TSB already with 2 active DDs ready for any other switch incentive which catches your eye:)
  • Looking for answers and came across this post - hope you don't mind me adding.

    As above - have no d/d coming out of account i want to switch, but time is running out for me to either switch 2 d/d's or make up new ones.

    I could try and change 2 from my other account - but not sure how long this takes. Does anyone know.

    Need to switch by Monday 30th as offer closes then. I take it by close of business on 30th. So I have just Thursday and Friday of this week, and Monday to apply.

    What offer is it?
    Why were your procrastinating for so long?
    Normally you have a lot of time for switching after applying.

    Changing existing DDs is unlikely to be faster.
  • The £150.00 and only saw this on tv on tuesday night. So am I right in saying you apply 1st then get d/d in place. I thought they required to be in place before applying and asking to switch - it does say you required to have 2 active d/d in place.

  • Read the terms and conditions again on another page. Seems you can apply, then tell them the date of the switch, so this would give me breathing space. It also states;

    This excludes internal transfers from any other account you hold with the Clydesdale. - Does this mean you can transfer from another account that is not Clydesdale ?? and Would this be classed as a Direct Debit ??
    if I set up money from one of my accounts to the new Clydesdale account ??

    Just asking as i thought that would be classed as a standing order not a direct debit.

    The full switch must be initiated by signing the Current Account Switch Agreement and must be completed within 31
    calendar days of the date you sign the agreement;

    Few months ago it was paper form that was sent by post. And you can select the date you want for switching.

    This is obviously about the minimum monthly funding, not about DDs.
  • Yes, that was going to be my next question - how do I sign for this, if its only available online, so thanks, they just post it to me and i return it signed.

    I missed out on the TSB offer as i went into branch to enquire where i was told they did not know anything of the offer and that it was just online, when they clearly knew about it.
