Two unexpected, but welcome, things from Aviva

First, they no longer need to know about any accidents where no claim was made.

secondly, my renewal price from them is cheaper than a new quote from them, even with £60 cash back factored in.

Interesting. They only ask about claims
How many motor claims have you made in the last 4 years?
You need to tell us about any motor related claim whether fault or non fault.
You don’t need to tell us about accidents where an insurance claim was not made and you paid for repairs yourself.

They advertise 'car insurance from £187' - my other half has been with them a few years and her renewal is less than that.

Note this is only when you are giving your history when applying for cover.

If you take out a policy, then you still must inform them of all incidents/losses you become involved in even if you don't intend to make a claim (in line with other insurers)

    From the policy:

...You must report any accident, injury, loss or damage to us as soon as possible.....
