Never hurts to make a silly offer.

    1. Figure out the maximum you are prepared to pay.

    2. Offer them a couple of grand less than that.

    3. Wait for their counter-offer, and offer them £500 more than your original offer.

    4. Repeat until either you meet in the middle, or they refuse to drop below your maximum. If the latter, walk away. If they come running after you with another counter offer, great. If not, look elsewhere.

    Simples.

Wait a couple of weeks until close to end of month/quarter.

Find a couple of cars you're interested in that are in different dealership groups

Walk in and be ready to buy i.e. I can do a deal now (and be sure that you can - the money needs to be readily available)

Play the two similar cars against each other until you've established which one is more desperate to sell

Don't rule out finance to get freebies (free servicing/warranty etc) and then paying it off immediately with your cash

What car and model are you looking for? If you are buying nearly new, you might find a comparable deal for a new car from the brokers such as broadspeed or drive the deal.
  • Ford Focus Titanium. Never heard of those before.

I can't really wait that long unfortunately. Need the car for work.

How do these brokers work? :undecided

I'm a cash buyer. Are these prices dependant on finance?

I've never used a broker, as I tend to buy cars that are 2-3 years old.
Here's a link to broadspeed prices for the focus https://broadspeed.com/new_cars/Ford/Focus/Choose_Number_Of_Doors/Hatchback/

How it works is at the bottom of here: https://broadspeed.com/
Hopefully others will be along with comments as to which brokers are good/bad or indifferent.
