I would assume this is to fall in line with the new legistlation being implemented.Im an ex employee RBS GroupHowever Any Opinion Given On MSE Is Strictly My Own0 -
Yes and other bank are following suit
HSBC are allowing Basic A/C withdrawals at counter and accounts can be applied online now0 -
Apart from these banks have any other banks announced new basic accounts yet? As there is no charges on the accounts does this mean they will all follow nationwide and give contactless cards as standard ?0

From what I understand is no their just giving contactless as standard on their new flex basic but I could be wrong.0

Looks like I'll be switching everything to nationwide come December then: I think it's terrible to be denied online banking just because we are bankrupt/ have a DRO. O/banking helps to manage money properly. And also can't even print a statement in branch because it doesn't allow a cash card to print statements.
Nationwides basic account already works at pay and pump : natwest and Halifax certainly dont (though FairPlay to Barclays whom do work there also).
The fact that a contactless card will come as standard is a huge improvement; even on my full current accounts I was unable to be 'eligible ' for one0 -

Wait and see how useful it is before celebrating. Just because it's contactless does automatically mean it can be used at pay and pump.0
