Hi all looking to get a small as possible DVD player which is USB powered, is capable of rewriting DVDs and can use the current TV remote for.
Just looking for it to be small and portable and just USB into PC in order to write the odd disc and plug into my samsung tv to play DVDs.
I have purchased the LG GP50NB40 External DVD Writer Optical Drive, which runs off the TV USB power also writes fine on PC. However when I come to play a DVD through it on the TV it seems to split the dvds up into individual files and have trouble with some sound, I simply just want it to plug into tv and play all from start to end without breaking it all down into lots of files.
Any reccomendations?

a dvd is made up of several files (chapters) , without the correct hardware to sort them out they will just be individual files , if you want a continuous file you will have to "rip" the dvd and convert it to a mp4 , avi or similar
have you established what format of files your TV will play ,
if so we can go forward a step and possibly help you convert them into the file type you need0 -
ah ok makes snes, so if I could rip from the DVDs and convert to AVI/MP3 it should play continuous no problem. The menu screen doesnt appear anyway I can just get it to start to menyu screen and just click play like a normal DVD?
Also if they are shop DVDs that are write protected i cant rip and convert to mp4 can I as the disc will be locked?
Also how do I found out what file format all my DVDs are in or is it even possible?0 -
ok I am on a machine without a dvd player , I cant think from memory the best programme to rip them look at http://bestfreedvdripper.aolor.com/
or before checking them out look at handbrake https://handbrake.fr/
I think that's the one I used to use0 -

Handbrake doesn't rip protected DVDs by default, you need to add libdvdcss-2.dll from VLC.Science isn't exact, it's only confidence within limits.0 -
ok , talk them thu it , as I said , I am on a machine without DVD capacity ,so can only make suggestions from my memory .0

you're complicating things, if you want to play dvd's, buy a dvd player for the tv and use hdmi, or scart. If you want to play files from a pc, get them in the correct format for the tv, then use a flash drive. If you want to record tv, buy a pvr. If you want to do everything buy a pvr with dvd with mp3 ability and with smart features for catchup.Don't you dare criticise what you cannot understand0

I want items to be as small as possible, next to none existent as wall mounting tvs and don't want any wires going below ideally. DVD players are still bulky and require scart/hdmi and external power.
I thought it would be common place these days to find a USB powered DVD player which is small and just plays DVDs on your tv.
Ive found the solution I think I will just plug dvd player into my pc and wirelessy stream to the tv seems the simplest. I thought technology would have moved on a bit from last time I checked!
The multi functionality of playing TV recordings/DVDs around the house from one unit isnt going to work, I either have o get a bulky unit and move it between each TV every time or just buy a PVR/DVD player for each room. Im just happy to play a few DVDs/Record TV in the loft only and then use my main HDD for films as I am doing so which can play off all the 3 tvs I have. Trying to play dvds and recorded TV off a small device across all 3 TVs is a pipe dream I guess!0
