The best way to invest?

I posted a few months ago about investing in green technology(mainly in the renewables sector) and have come across the following:
http://www.trustnet.com/it/funds/perf.asp?sort=21&page=0&ss=0&txtS=&txtSS=&columns=&class=conv&booAITC=1®=all&sec=all&aitc=ssalt
I am not asking for performance advice as I know that is not allowed to be given unless you are a professional ifa but I would like to know which is the best way to buy into one of these shares or unit trusts(it is not very clear which they are). Is it a straight choice between a self select isa or H&L or something else?
Also the Merrill Lynch New Energy Technology appears to invest in more Renewable Energy & Alternative Fuel than the jupiter one. Would this be a fair assessment because it that is the case then I would be buying into Merrill Lynch.

They're shares. More specifically, they are investment trusts, which are investment companies, shares in which you can buy through a stock broker. Self-select ISA would be the place for them.0

The thing I look for in an investment trust is the management quality. They are the key players to manage your portfolio. Especially working on the technology, do they know the stuff needed to manage the portfolio companies?
Also, do they have enough cash to minimise risk? I rather earn less than lose lots.
Hope this might give you a start.0
