just as an update... it took a lot longer than 6wks! And I am putting some of it (up to the limit for what they pay interest on) into the current accounts as you suggested, & am spreading the rest between fixed rate 1yr & isas. Then when I am feeling stronger & looked into things more fully nxt yr, I will investigate investing some of it in (SLIGHTLY!) more adventurous ways.
