I got my mum one of the Amazon own brand shredders, it's worked flawlessly.0

I put a charidee letter through mine without opening it, there was a cheap pen inside, result, stripped plastic gear teeth.
Bought a 10 sheet one from Argos and to date has been the best of the 3 I've owned.

I'm only home use, but this one has never cut out through overuse, I can chuck stuff in as fast as I like.
I even shred cereal packets etc for the compost heap. (After unravelling them to single thickness).Move along, nothing to see.0 -
Do you know anyone (trustworthy) with a wood burner, if so look here:

You can please some of the people some of the time, all of the people some of the time, some of the people all of the time but you can never please all of the people all of the time0 -
I've had an Aurora cross-cut for several years. Claims to take 10 sheets, but I don't risk it (agree with other poster re that being tested on thin sheets).
Ideally, I should shred as the waste is created, but I do tend to save it all up in a carrier bag and have a long session of shredding and it copes well with that.0 -
*cough* bonfire..breathe in, breathe out- You're alive! Everything else is a bonus, right? RIGHT??0

As others mentioned. These home shredders are not very reliable.
I had to change 2. And now I have given up.
And I tried cheap and middle range.
Heavy duty are expensive.
Now I just bring all my papers to my workplace and use theirs.
They got this massive one and does not slow down. Can even take clips.0 -

Works a treat and cuts plastic cards and CD's. I find I can run it for about 20 - 30 minutes at time without it needing a break to cool down.
Bought a couple of cheap ones in the past but they never last. Had this one about 2 years now.0 -
We have a home one that has lasted a few years, just need to shred in batches. As said previously, you need a cross cut shredder so it produces small rectangular paper bits rather than long strips. The best way to get rid of the shredded stuff is to find someone with a rabbit or guinea pigs etc. as it makes good bedding. Can't remember what brand mine is but we got it from Tesco's from recollection - spent about £50. The main thing is to only shred what you need to - sounds obvious but my OH had a huge pile of papers for shredding and most of it just needed the name and address tearing off.0

This is the latest version of my own shredder, bought 2 years ago. I have shredded thick card, multiple sheets of paper, credit cards, CD's and DVD's. It never misses a beat, it may be expensive but it's all the shredder you will ever need.

Whichever one you choose, here are a couple of tips:
* Never try to shred anything with adhesive, sellotape or glue. It sticks in the mechanism, fouls the teeth and burns out the motor.
* Never try to shred those polythene/plastic bags that deliveries are wrapped in - same result.
* Every so often, smear just a slight amount of cooking oil on an A4 sheet and shred it, this lubricates it. Don't use machine oil and don't use more than a very thin smear on the paper. Then run a sheet of dry paper through it.I think this job really needs
a much bigger hammer.

I don't know if I should be worried or not, but I really enjoyed making a fire.
Going down to Lidl tomorrow to buy that garden incinerator for £15 (if stock allows).Instigated terrorism the road to dictatorship.0
