primer for expanding foam filler

Options
Hi, does has anyone on here used expanding foam filler and did you use a primer before painting it? My porch got slightly flooded last week in the torrential rain we had, and when I pulled up the carpet, I found that the people who put the door in (years ago) had left a big hole under the door, where the water was coming in. After I got rid of the soaking, stinking carpet, and the floor had dried out, I filled the hole with expanding foam and am going to paint the floor, but think I should prime it all first. I have half a tin of International Universal Primer Sealer, enough for the small area it needs to cover, but I'm not sure if this is suitable to use on the foam - don't want to spend any more than I have already and would really appreciate any advice the more knowledgeable among you can give me! I have tried every way of wording my query on google but can't find the answer and I just want to get on with it, hate decorating at the best of times, though don't mind getting stuck in with a paint brush - if I have to:D

  • Once set the foam is pretty stable chemically I would imagine. If you are worried about the paint reacting with the foam leave a piece of foam to set then paint it see what happens.
  • Why not just add a small amount of render to it or plaster to smooth the area and paint over this.

What does it say on the foam filler container. Most fillers will say something like - "can be painted once hard" or "can be painted after nn hours"

Thanks for your replies. It just says it can be painted over, not much info on there at all, perhaps I worry too much! It also says can be plastered over, so (as Stevie said) I think I'll just cover with filler, and prime/paint that. I just didn't want to have to spend any more on it, the floor paint isn't cheap, plus I bought paint for the walls too, as they were going to look a bit scruffy next to a newly painted floor, so the coffers are getting a bit light. Thanks again, knew someone on here would point me in the right direction.
