Just noticed what I feel is a nasty trick / short fall, that may leave RBS Motoring customers stranded in Europe having to pay large local bills!!! Previously I had a Royalties account, that sold Green Flag Rescue at a 'Discount Price'. I bought through Royalties a Green Flag rescue policy 'Total Protection with Homestart' inc European cover for £67. Now RBS have switched my package to RBS Platinum which has a complementary Green Flag 'Comprehensive Cover' value £53. However this new cover does not include European Cover. So I thought to get European Cover, simples phone Green Flag and offer to pay £67 - £53 = £14 for the upgraded European cover. Sorry was the reply, for European Cover you will need to take out a another policy at £67??????????? Rang the bank whose response was to instigate a complaint procedure and inform me that this is how we do it, if you want European Cover buy a European Policy from from Green Flag, if you don't like it find another Account / Bank!!!!! Another nail in the coffin of these 'special accounts'?

Try Nationwide FlexPlus. It's got great breakdown cover, and other insurances, plus it pays 3% interest up to £2,500. It costs £10 a month but if you keep £2,500 in it at all times, the interest you get reduces the cost to around £6 (if you are a basic rate tax payer).

Also, if you find a friend who recommends you, both of you can get £100.
