I recently brought home insruance (contents) from nationwide online - on completion of the form it seemed I was covered except that I did not get a confirmation code or email or anything!
I phoned natiowide who couldnt find any record of my application so I did it again - and guess what same thing.
I am now in the situation where I dont know if I am covered or not thanks to a sub-standard application procedure from nationwide. So I am going to get cover elsewhere my concern is if come the 1st of next month nationwide actually take the first monthly payment out of my account - surley I cant tell them to stick there insurance where the sun dont shine or not??
Thanks

If either of your applications were successful you will receive some paperwork via mail and you will have a cooling off period of 14 days during which you can cancel the insurance with no penalty. They also would write confirming the setup of the DD.

Just write nationwide a letter to their head office telling them politely where to go and keep a copy. Then if they do take the money from your bank account, use the direct debit guarantee to get the money back. This basically involves writing or emailing your bank and informing them that nationwide have no right to take them money from your bank account as you have no contract with them. Don't bother trying to enforce the direct debit guarantee on the phone as in my experience bank staff state that you are not covered to avoid doing the work.I'm not cynical I'm realistic
