New Mum Birthday Present Suggestions

  • I was going to say take her out and let her choose an eternity ring (seeing as you say your choices don't go down well), but then you said under £50.

If you get a chance see if an eternity ring is something she would like some other time when you are feeling a little more flush. Often this is given around the birth of the first child.

Me I am still waiting for mine, 11 years on and plenty of hints around the birth of both my babies. My first gift as a mum from their dad was a first aid manual. Then a cheap necklace purchased off some charity stall either in the hospital or at my husband's work. While sentiment was meant I didn't necessarily feel cherished.

Well done on the Spa day, I think that is a lovely treat to offer.

Cheers for the suggestions so far.

I had a look at those fingerprint necklaces and like the idea but they're a lot more pricey than I was hoping to pay.

I like the idea of the vouchers so may do something like that as I really want something that she can see i've thought about rather than just gone out and spent money on. So, may do a few of these in a card valid for a lie in, a baby free day, a takeaway, meal out and date night.

As for the eternity ring, she got a wedding ring last year and an engagement ring the year before both of which were a few hundred quid so although she has joked about getting an eternity ring for our first child I want to break the habit of her expecting an expensive ring off of me every year :)

I would check how much of a joke it was.

Eternity rings after the birth of a first child is often seen in the same light as engagement and wedding rings. I was and you can tell am still disappointed never to have received one. It is standard in my husbands family to give and receive one so you can see my disappointment when it was built up that it would be forthcoming. You might find it is a similar tradition with your wife's family!

A baby's fingerprint isn't usually defined enough to take a decent print from before they're a year old, I believe.
Trying to be a man is a waste of a woman
  • I agree with something not related to the baby too. What are her interests? New sewing machine? Hobbycraft have some good deals on at the minute. Tickets to something at the theatre? Gardening show... Cookery class...

    There's your hint right there!

If you can afford an eternity ring, i'd get one either now or for christmas this year. After that, there aren't any more 'traditional' expensive rings left to add to the collection, so you're off the hook.

Having the extra bit of information, I'd go for the ring.

Hubby and I have no children but I got one after one years marriage, so like you it was engagement ring one year, wedding the next and then eternity ring. Doesn't mean I expected a ring The Year after that at all though.
Forty and fabulous, well that's what my cards say....

I found them on a search for Hatton Garden a Reviews and they came up on Trip Advisor.

Choose them on being able to offer a no quibble return even on bespoke commissions. They were confident my girlfriend would love it and the risk was on them if she didn't. The ring was awesome Sarah-Jane the gemologist was lovely too

I was more offended by him referring to a gift of jewellery as a "push present" :D
