  • Like I said, it is a big learning curve for me.
So as recommended by you I shall purchase the Dell Windows 7 Professional 32 bit SP1 Recovery Restore Disc USED + RAM as per website http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Dell-Windows-7-Professional-32-bit-SP1-Recovery-Restore-Disc-USED-RAM-/252072764435
  • I have read the info about this disc and it says it has been used once or twice and that I will also need a Windows 7 Professional, Microsoft COA (certificate of authenticity) or Microsoft Windows 7 Professional OEM installation Key to activate the install from this DVD.!! I don't have.

It's now already sold. Was it you who managed to buy it?

Once again, I will remind you to ignore anything else but my advice if you wish to prevent us both from a headache....especially if you've missed purchasing from either of the links I provided. Now the discs may be even more expensive.
How much RAM is installed to the machine?

If you missed both of the sales links above, navigate here without delay to purchase a disc.

Once the disc arrives, click here and follow the instructions. Though there is really no need to install the DELL System software(to slow things down) as they suggest(though if you are selling it on you might wish to show that everything is installed) and you may wish to delete and format the 100MB partition as well as the main ( C: ) before installing to the unallocated space, by choosing: Drive options(advanced) during the install.

to further ensure that your old data has been overwritten.
  • Windows 7 installed.
    Now for Windows 10.
BUT. I need to upgrade my Internet Explorer to 11 in order to get the Windows 10 app.
This was not a problem until the download reached the 'Preparing to Configure Windows. Do not turn off your computer' stage.
It has been displaying on that 'stage' for nearly 3 hours now, with the little blue circle going round and round. Is this normal?

Why Windows 10? Have you decided to keep the laptop?

You didn't need IE 11. Just download the image here
