I've found Osram Nightbreakers to be the best value for money bulb vs brightness but i think the Philips X-Treme vision are a little better but harder to justify the extra cost.
If your lights look cloudy like the above picture this will have a big affect on the brightness as well so would ensure they're not frosted first and if they are get them polished up somewhere to sort it then fit the bulbs and should be a world of difference.Strider590 wrote: »I swear I've been over this before...........
It actually doesn't dazzle oncoming cars, due to the cut off line being so abrupt. Most cars emit light above that line and the MOT test is designed to stop THOSE cars dazzling other road users.
Then why would you need to flick them from position 2, back to position 1 for the MOT as previously stated? All your base are belong to us.0 -
OP probably wants those ebay special buy HID kits that bounce around giving off a light show with every bump in the road.0

I only remember one art "project". a painting of Thompson Antiques on Ivybridge high street and I decided to use a colour wash for the sky - it took 2 days for the paper to dry out. Didn't do art any more after that

I bought a car recently and the headlights were very white, Not HIDs.
Whilst on very dark country lane with overhanging trees i thought my lights were not switched on fully, but they were.
Cheap ebay bulbs with the blue coating to give a white light but with the downside that they fail to illuminate the road properly.
I fitted Philips extreme, If you shop around you can get them for close to the nightbreaker prices.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -

That's not what you suggested. You suggested aligning them for MOT (-0.28 deg) on the first "dip" position of the adjuster, then moving them up by using the adjuster after the test. That will take them above the horizontal and dazzle people.
The reason for the -0.28 degree limit rather than horizontal, btw, is because roads aren't completely smooth. If you set them exactly horizontal then every bump will have them bouncing above horizontal and giving that really annoying flashing effect that we've all experienced as the cut-off jumps up and down into oncoming driver's eyes.
Seeing as the actual light output from low beam isn't much less than main beam (it's the aim that changes, the wattages are very similar), that gives the same effect to other drivers as driving towards them flashing your high beams on and off.0 -
Yet another vote for Nightbreakers. I have also used the Halfords own brand bulbs, labelled '+50%' and the like, and have found them usefully brighter with a similar life span to normal bulbs. If someone is nice to you but rude to the waiter, they are not a nice person.0
