Court Summons for Speeding

Hi, just need a bit of advise. My fiancee called to let me know this morning that my court summons arrived after I was caught speeding near Dumfries whilst on holiday in July. I was doing 52 in a 30 only a few hundred yards from a national limit sign whilst leaving a small town (no excuse but just to give context!) I would love to make it to the court which would give a good impression but it is a 140 mile round trip and with work commitments, i wouldn't be able to do it! I haven't read the letter myself yet but the officer who pulled me over said I could write to the court to make a plea (guilty), is there anything out there which could show me how I go about writing this? Thanks :)

This site deals mainly with private parking. Your best bet is to go over to pepipoo.com as they are the motoring offence specialists. Read the FAQs and scan in any (redacted) documents before you post there.

Wow! Being taken to court for 52 in a 30? Did they offer points/fine?

I only ask out of curiosity as plod pulled me for exactly the same (52 in a 30) about 18 years ago (young driver, first car, not paying attention, first offence) and got 3 points and £40 (how inflation has changed things!)

As the others say though, you're best off asking on pepipoo!

Yup! Worse now that new drivers are only allowed 6 points for two years! Advice on Pepipoo was " drive like a granny for 20 months" :rotfl: Very helpful over there, I'll let you know the outcome.

Scotland are a bit harsher on speeding then England and Wales, no speeding course's there. Plus 52 in a 30 is into possible disqualification territory, speed limit plus 45% being the threshold.

Points and a fine are more likely, if they sent you a means form with the summons make sure you fill it in and send it back, with your guilty plea.
