I have a Seagate Central ST2000VM003 network drive that I want to put a larger hard drive in.
How do I copy the boot/OS software to another hard drive?

I cannot seem to google that number , can you link to it or describe it better?
is it a network drive (nas) with its own CPU etc and an Ethernet port , or just a basic drive
is this topic related to your system

Sorry I gave the wrong number.over 73 but not over the hill.0 -
ok without spending a great deal of time , it looks to be a nas drive
replace the drive , follow https://youtu.be/-ptZT9TMR84
this should allow you to format/setup your new drive (Linux type format)
very possible that the drive that comes out will not be able to be read on a windows setup , and if you wish to use itt , you will have to reformat it0 -

For info
If it's ext linux format you can read it under windows, all you need to do is install a driver for it:

NB I'd only trust it for read only and not writing.Science isn't exact, it's only confidence within limits.0 -

All that video does is show me how to set it up not how to get the OS software onto a larger drive.over 73 but not over the hill.0 -

It's a right royal PIA to recover data due to a weird ext block size:

One to avoid
I can't, I have one.yes , but like the dlink one I am using , you use the software interface to communicate and set up the new drive
I know how to communicate with it I have had it for 2 years and it still doesn't help me install a larger drive and copy/install the OS onto the new drive.over 73 but not over the hill.0 -
is the o/s on the system? or is it like most other nas drives help on the board that holds the CPU?
a nas drive is generally a small computer with its own OS that has facilities to hold drives
the drives do not hold the os
at least on the ones I have used
but if you think differently , I cannot help anymore0 -
Are you referring to the computer motherboard or the drive enclosure?or is it like most other nas drives help on the board that holds the CPU?the drives do not hold the os
So how come my computer will not boot without a hard drive connected.
So why does it take a few minutes to "boot" and become usable whereas my USB drive is usable immediately?
Also what software or OS is accessed when I use a web browser and go to 192.168.0.2?
Or is the OS embedded in the hardware of the drive and not on the drive and I should just be able to swap out the drive?over 73 but not over the hill.0
