Try and borrow a large petrol chainsaw from someone. That way you should get away without taking the door off.
No, seriously... need to know if it's a solid wood door or not, and how much you need to take off.Do whatever it takes.

its not a solid wooden door, only approx an inch needs to come offrelynutz says it all0

If it's not a solid door, then taking an inch off the bottom may take it down to the hollow part.
But if you still want to do it, the best wat is to take the door off (hopefully the hinges haven't been painted too many times), and on a secure surface, after pencil-marking a line, use a circular saw. If you don't have one, you can hire them (or borrow from a friend).
Note: Take less off rather than more or you'll end up with an american-style saloon door!Do whatever it takes.

I've done several doors over the years.
Just use a normal saw with a fine cut blade (and some elbow grease).
All you need to do is follow the pencil line.
Super Easy !
Note: thevanman is correct if it's not a solid door and you take more than an inch off then you'll take the butt off the end of the door leaving a large hollow.0
