Nissan Pathfinder broken door handle - AGAIN!

I see there was a thread a few years ago about Pathfinders having rear door handles that break. It highlighted the breathtaking arrogance of Nissan's customer care policy, and I would be interested to know whether anyone here has ever had a satisfactory response from Nissan to such a complaint.

Our 2007 Pathfinder has now needed THREE replacement rear handles, but Nissan won't accept that they could be unfit for purpose. They suggest we get one of their engineers to test and report on the latest handle to break, AT OUR EXPENSE! The old saying 'good money after bad' springs to mind, so we definitely won't be taking that route.

Our vehicle spends much of its time 'resting' as we only really use it for caravanning. There are dog cages fitted in the back, so we don't take passengers. The most it ever gets used is on holidays - which is when all three of the handles have broken. Very convenient, I don't think.

I have been unable to speak to a decision-maker at Nissan. My post to Facebook was filtered off by the complaints team, after which the MD's PA rang me, but she just recited Nissan's rules of engagement with dissatisfied customers.

How are others faring?

Totally agree about Nissan customer care, they are based abroad and don't give a monkeys. We will definitely not be buying another Nissan, love the car though.

Nissan customer care is a joke - I speak from personal experience. It may need a group of affected customers to all email BBC Watchdog with details of the problem and how Nissan dealt with it. If there's an owners forum somewhere that would be a good place to start.

This is what Hyundai owners did and it led to the report about the Hyundai ix35 fuel filter problem.

Do you mean internal or external handles?

I had to replace both front interior door handles due to failure.

I chose to fit UK spec handles again but you can buy US spec handles that have a metal bit instead of the plastic bit that breaks on the UK handle.

But the U.S. handles have an additional locking button which I thought would look odd

Never had any problems with the rear external handles though and my Pathfinder was used for work for 3 hrs by the first owner and then another three years by myself and a business partner

There may be a Pathfinder forum were you can post up and find out how many other owners have had the same issue

If not the Nissan Navara forum has a Pathfinder section and there is also PCOA, Pathfinder Club of Australia which may have some good info for you.

Luckily my Pathfinder was fairly trouble free but the fuel consumption was the main reason for getting rid never even had camchain issues despite it doing big miles, over 130k when sold if memory serves, and had 91k when I bought at 3yrs.

Apparently Nissan are evasive when it comes to camchain problems

Much different to Jaguar who have been faultless in fixing the problems with my Jaguar, they even changed my inlet manifold under good will even though the car had well over 100k on it and was 7months outside the warranty, one advantage of having Full Main Dealer Service History.

I must admit I would have another Pathfinder. But I would go for a Euro3 model as my 08 was a Euro4 with a DPF and struggled to crack 23mpg overall!
