I reckon this is a marketing ploy to get people to come into their deserted shops.

Everytime there is a posting on here about 97p games at Dixons or Currys or PC World (all part of the same chain!) - no matter what store I go to the games are full price and so either 'bought' by staff themselves or just a non-existant deal.

I work across the UK so can visit several different stores in a single week - and have done so - to no avail. So as I said, either one-off store specific deals or a marketing scam.

I have got a few xbox and PS2 games for 97p (West Midlands). I even got one for a 1p, xbox Splintercell on Monday. I brought one for a mate yesterday when I got my PS2 games and was charged 97p but the assistant may have changed the price because he kept looking at it, no price override on my receipt so it might have been an error that was adjustment overnight. You never know though it might be on the system as 1p.

Off the top of my head these are the games I got. I tried scanning a few as well but they came up full price. Any if in some store the games are, marked at full price and are actually 97p this list might help. I don't know the full titles so some may be slightly wrong and misspelt I only have a couple of minutes of my lunchbreak left so I haven't get time to check for mistakes.

    Xbox
    Wrestlemania 21
    Spongepants Bob
Starwars (two different ones, I can't remember titles)
    Burnout 3
    Splintercell
    Timesplitter
James Bond (Russia something, can't remember)
    Gun
    Mercenaries
    Lord of the rings

    PS2
    Mercenaries
    Constantine
    Americas most wanted
    Denator
    Lord of the rings
    Metal (something????) 3

There were also football and rugby games. I didn't get them and don't know the titles because I know my brother doesn't like sports games. At this price it is just so tempting to get some to try them but thought it only fair to leave them for someone that's into their sports games. If I think of anymore I will added them later.

the staff knew nothing about it and even scanning stuff it came up at full price.

    useless!!!

told them it was a head office reduction but they said they didnt know how to check for that.

    waste of time.
    might try burton tomorow

thanks for the heads up but theres no accounting for the staff being useless

Thanks for the heads up OP - I got Asphalte, Sprung, Drill spirits and polarium for (DS) for 97p each and Grand theft Auto, Spongebob, shark tale (GBA) for 97p and Buffy (GBA) for 47 p yesterday morning. I reserved Asphalte on-line before collecting, then saw the others.

This is Oxford (clarendon centre) they had lots Xbox and PS games too. All the reduced stock is on a piller (to your right towards the back as you enter the store). They are all marked as 97 p - but they did have a sign outside the store advertising the promotion, so I don't know what's left now.

They did ID me for grand theft auto though as you need to be over 16 to buy it - you know your getting old when you're flattered when they ask for ID :rotfl:

Dammit, would have gone in there had I been at home this week! Sadly not.

Don't you have to be over 18 to buy GTA? I assume thats more of the reason for ID'ing you.
