Have been refused a job but cannot find adverse info on credit file

Hi,
I was wondering if if anyone could help me with the following issue. I received a job offer from a bank but after the pre-employment screening, I was declined due to adverse information on my credit report through Equifax and Experian. I was told that by the bank that there are more than one delinquent / defaulted accounts that showed up in the screening. I have gone in length through my credit files with Equifax and Experian (the two the bank advised me to contact) as I have no bankruptcies, CCJs, IVAs, etc and my accounts are all up to date. The following day, one default turned up on Experian regarding a defaulted gas bill in 2011 which I was not aware off and was fully paid off at the time. I am now in contact with the gas provider to have this rectified. Apparently according to the bank, I have more than one defaulted account. How can I get access to the report that the bank received versus an incomplete one that I am viewing through the CRAs online ?
Thank you in advance for any advice.... I am tearing my hair out as I cannot get a job unless I resolve the situation but I am not being told what accounts are causing the problem.

Only a small number of jobs/employers will be able to do pre-employment credit checks. This is clearly one of them, but many others will not be.
You may find it useful to ask the bank what personal data they used to undertake the checks. For example, did you provide a previous address?0 -
Seems amazing that a late paid gas bill prevents someone getting employment?
These black lists seem to have an ever more negative effect on people everyday lives as time passes."Love you Dave Brooker! x"

If someone struggles to manage their own financial affairs properly then are the right person to advise others?
Plenty of complaints on MSE about the quality of bank staff these days.

I agree but the employer was a bank ....0 -
Sadly credit scoring has become common across many more sectors. Many jobs in finance departments require a credit check now, both for indication of behaviour as well as checking there's no obvious employee risk (CIFAS? even CCJ's, etc - perhaps they think people in trouble may be tempted.)
OP - It seems very harsh (or a very feeble credit check) - "Multiple accounts" - My electricity and gas accounts show up separately on experian, is it possible there's multiple entries shown as default. Doubt many employers will know how to read the results of a check (even a bank, as they won't be using their normal scoring). If it really is just British Gas, and it's definitely their mistake, make sure you post back for advice from one of the "biggies" here on potential compensation for loss of employment.
I once paid off a friend's small CCJ as she couldn't start a job in a finance department with it - her new employer was happy once the entry was satisfied.Peter

Check the dates and addresses you used for your credit report.Changing the world, one sarcastic comment at a time.0
