Advice needed BT broadband contract

Hi,
We moved into a new build 11 months ago and when looking into broadband we found out that the ONLY option we had was BT. We were with Plusnet but they said they would let us out of our contract free of charge as no one but BT could supply the new build houses.
BT told us that we were in a 'fibre to home' trial area so we had to sign up for an 18 month contract to get any internet.
A few months ago Virgin installed their lines, can anyone tell me if they have managed to get out of their existing contracts? I feel that we held to ransome and we could save £30 a month if we were able to move to Virgin.
Any help with this would be much appreciated, tia, Kim

You have a valid contract and in no way where you held to ransom . Its a normal 18 month contract .When VM decided to roll-out their services has nothing to do with BT .
You may have had a letter/ email from BT stating a price increase and giving you the option within 30 days to cancel . Check your members account/ bills .
Its always better to post a phone problem on the phone boards .0 -
If it was a new build and only BT had fibre to the site, then there is a fair chance the developer knew about this - possibly encouraged BT to set cables in - poss space to complain to them ( unless it is in the small print of the contract). Also worth looking at cost of early release from BT contract, and comparing to Virgin saving.0

Sorry, I didn't realise Broadband questions went on the phone forum.
The day after I posted this we had a letter about prices going up so I'm now able to get out of my contract.0
